Having been the editor of the “Solinger Tageblatt” since 1919, Hanns Heinen was exposed to the entirety of the Solingen and Berigisch region’s literary output every single day: every poem, novel, novella, and indeed the new wave of hometown songs (Heimatlieder). To him, it would be dishonourable to exploit his fame to get his works published - a strange notion by today’s standards - and as a result, Hanns Heinen never had any of his own books printed. His open-air play “The Royal Game” was never performed anywhere and his historical overview of the rise of National Socialism, “The Road of the Thirty Years”, was never published. His written legacy remains the thousands of articles he wrote as a journalist.
